Product Information

Is GROUND allergy friendly?

Our hydration electrolytes are non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, and nut-free. Our sleep electrolytes do contain dairy. We don't hide maltodextrin in any of our products so anyone with diabetes is able to enjoy our flavors! (Other brands hide their maltodextrin behind the "natural" flavor labelling scheme.)

What are electrolytes and why are they important?

Electrolytes are key minerals in your body that carry an electric charge and are essential for many processes in your body like muscle function, nerve signaling and balancing fluids, like water. In GROUND you can find significant electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium and chloride.

Why do you have so much sodium in your formulas?

Sodium is a vital electrolyte for fluid balance in your body. Sodium draws water toward itself to maintain homeostasis for proper cell function, metabolism, and muscle function. When you use and lose sodium during activities, GROUND restores what you need. Check out our blog posts on sodium!

Why do you use sugar in some of your formulas?

Sugar (primarily glucose) is the body's preferred source of fuel, providing short-term energy. To get you refueled quickly, we use regenerative organic certified raw cane sugar. Of course, tailor sugar intake to your use case - you know your body best!Cane sugar is natural and primarily composed of sucrose which is both glucose and fructose so it has a lower glycemic index score than solely glucose. We avoided other sugar options like dextrose due to its origin from corn which tends to be heavily GMO and sprayed with pesticides.

Is sugar-free available?

Yes! We make our formulas in both unsweetened and sweetened with stevia leaf extract varieties! Check out our Earth formulas for these options.

Use and Storage

Why are the particles not all the same size?

So we could eliminate fillers and preserve the natural state of our ingredients. Here is how it works: when you scoop, you want an even scoop every time. That becomes difficult when there are different sized ingredients that settle to different layers in a container. One solution is to process the ingredients to all be the same size. When processing powders smaller then their usual states, whether by blending or grinding, the flow of individual ingredients is impacted. After processing various ingredients down to a uniform size, companies then tend to compensate for the lack of free flow by adding fillers such as silicon dioxide, maltodextrin, or other silicates. It is possible (and probable) that some of those fillers are also hidden inside of "natural flavors"! We detest this practice because we don't want fillers in our jars. The isolated desiccants that we use will help prevent moisture build-up, but we still need you to mix and shake to get even scoops!

How much do I need to mix and shake?

Shaking a closed jar for 5 to 10 seconds while turning it on all of its sides does the job. This helps to undo any settling that has occurred. When scooping, we like to scoop all the way to the bottom of the jar if possible, just to be certain we are getting an even scoop.

How much electrolyte can I take in a day?

It depends on your use case, the more you move and sweat, the more electrolyte you need! Keep in mind that GROUND is intended as a supplement on top of your standard diet. Most people tend to use 1-2 servings a day, whereas our founder consumes 10-15 grams of sodium per day, so he uses the equivalent of 3-5 servings a day.

How should I store my jars?

Dry, cool and dark - in that order! Our jars have tamper seals, desiccant packs, and airtight lids so that you don't have to worry about storage issues. Our desiccant packs are rated for vastly larger containers, but moisture decreases shelf life, so keeping our jars away from fluid is best practice.

How long can I store GROUND electrolytes?

Check the bottom of your jar for a best by date! Depending on the flavor, our electrolytes last anywhere from 12-30 months. Per the USDA, food dates indicate quality, not safety (except for infant formula).

Is there a scoop inside of the jar?

Yes! Every jar comes with a wood scoop, so you don't need any other utensils to portion out your scoops. Just be sure to check how many scoops are in one serving of your electrolytes, because some of our jars have different scoop quantities.

I see some jars are bigger than others. Do you offer bigger sizes of the same electrolytes?

No. Some jars are bigger than others because their serving sizes are different. For example, the serving size of our cane sugar electrolytes is about 3x the size of our unsweetened electrolytes, so the jar for cane sugar varieties is bigger.
